Biography

Meike Herzig continued her intensive studies after her recorder studies with G. Höller and W. van Hauwe. She was especially interested in epochs and styles that do not usually occur in the study: the music of the Middle Ages, folk, improvised music and jazz. The experience with these different genres characterizes her style - tense, rhythmically pointed and tonally differentiated.

She often plays flute copies of the Middle Ages, whose rarely heard percussive sound makes her style unique. Performances e.g. at the festival of old music Herne, jazz festival Moers, the festival of the European Broadcasting Union or as the first prizewinner in the competition "Creole" show the breadth of her artistic creativity. Concert tours took her to France, Italy, Canada, Hungary, Poland and Switzerland. Meike Herzig plays in the ensembles Bois de Cologne and sYn.de and with artists such as Dorothee Oberlinger, Carlo Rizzo, Michel Godard, Albrecht Maurer, members of Concerto Köln and Sequentia, the Hilliard Ensemble and as guest of Oni Wytars.

Developing unusual, attractive concert and CD programs is one of her particular strengths. Her CD with music from the Codex Squacialupi and the ensemble palatino87, which was co-produced with Deutschlandfunk, has been released by CPO. Her ensemble Il Lusorius founded in autumn 2014, was inspired by the idea of ennobling music boxes as a source for a new kind of musical journey.
